The Source: Truganina brothel ordered to close its doors

Residents of Rymill Way in Truganina would be well advised to seek fresh property valuations after the closure of what could be Melbourne’s most miserable brothel.

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.

The residents of Rymill Way, Truganina, may be seeking updated property valuations after the closure of what must surely have been one of suburban Melbourne’s least appealing brothels.

Real estate agents in 2018 were spruiking the neighbouring unit as a budget, family-friendly home, close to local schools and shopping centres.

Fast-forward two years, and the folks in unit 1, number 24, were setting up a decidedly un-family friendly business for physical transactions.

Presumably, there were male customers whose idea of a romantic setting was a bargain-basement developer home in a housing estate with unmown lawns and a drooping cactus in the front yard.

That said, the brothel was discreet, sitting as it did opposite a paddock, with its curtains always drawn, and windows sometimes even blacked out with plastic.

A fortnight ago, the Werribee Magistrates Court made orders officially shutting the place down.

A humble notice in last week’s government gazette was the venue’s requiem.

“That premises is no longer a proscribed brothel under the Sex Work Act,” the notice said.

The Source trusts that the unit gets a thorough clean before the next tenants move into the newly family friendly surrounds.

Margot Robbie gives Melbourne a Barbie brush off

We’ve been Robbied! Barbie gives Melbourne the brush.

Pink is starting to stink, and it’s not just the expected ratings stench for a certain doll movie.

No, it’s much worse.

Barbie is giving Melbourne the brush.

Ramsay St royalty Margot Robbie will snub her former hometown in her promo duties for the plastic not-so-scholastic Barbie movie.

Instead, studio giant Warner Bros Pictures says Robbie and her Barbie brood, co-stars America Ferrera, Issa Rae and director Greta Gerwig, will visit Sydney on June 30 to “celebrate their new film.”

The studio added, with Hollywood enthusiasm and an exclamation mark: “The trip marks the first stop on a global publicity tour that promises to turn the world pink!”

Sadly, that rose tinted hue doesn’t extend to grey Melbourne where Robbie did the hard yards, her pre-Barbie prep, perfecting her plastic acting on Neighbours.

The Barbie film, produced by Robbie, also stars Ryan Gosling.

Robbie last visited Sydney in May, lunching with celebrity friends, then rocking into a trendy bar to flog her gin brand.

Melb high flyers winter exodus warms up

The winter of content exodus continues for Melbourne’s high-flyers heading to the other side of the world for a glimpse of sunlight, and maybe a bubbly or three.

On Monday afternoon, Carlton footy club president Luke Sayers was spotted among the first-class privileged people at Melbourne airport, for a family holiday for wife Cate’s 50th birthday in Italy.

Another go-to destination shapes as Royal Ascot, the toffiest of horse race meetings, west of London from June 20-24.

Channel Ten Melbourne Cup Carnival coverage host Eddie McGuire will be there, along with Channel 7 and SEN personality Campbell Brown.

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne will attend, as will Channel 7 commentator Jason Richardson and prominent racehorse owners Brae Sokolski and John O’Neill.

It’s not known if the sports-loving luminaries will drive a few hours up the road, while in England, to check out the First Ashes test at Edgbaston from June 16.

But you would if you could, wouldn’t you?

Collingwood president Jeff Browne is heading to Royal Ascot, too, to be accompanied by partner and VRC board member Ann Peacock.

Browne has been favoured by the footballing and racing gods.

He can head to Ascot on Tuesday after Monday’s Melbourne-Collingwood clash, and get home before the Magpies’ next game, after a bye, on June 25 against Adelaide.

Sayers, in contrast, has had to assure increasingly sad Blues’ fans that he would be fully engaged from somewhere special on the other side of the world.

“Rest assured I will be attending Carlton board meetings, watching the games and managing business while I am away,” he said a few weeks ago.
