A loved father of three killed on the Peninsula Link Freeway was working his last shift before taking time off to be with his family.
David Cenacchi, 38, died when his O’Brien AutoGlass van collided with a four-wheel drive, which then crashed into a truck inbound near Robinsons Rd about 6.40am on Friday April 3.
He had just set off on his final day of work and was due to spend the next three weeks home in Mornington with his wife Imogen, 10-year-old twins Layla and Alyria and five-year-old son Dominic, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
His devastated family have remembered him as a “beautiful soul” and hard worker who lived for his wife and kids.
His brother, Mario Cenacchi, who witnessed the aftermath of the collision, said David was admired by all who knew him.
“He was always calm, always gentle but unwavering when it mattered,” his brother said.
“He always did the right thing. When any of his children couldn’t sleep they were always welcome in his bed until they fell asleep wrapped in his loving embrace.
“He worked hard all the time. He was good to his mother and had earned the respect of his five brothers and sisters and all of Imogen’s family.”
Twenty minutes before the fatal collision there was an eight-car pileup outbound on the freeway near Cranbourne Rd.
It is understood this slowed inbound traffic, causing congestion, before Mr Cenacchi crashed.
He and his wife were teenagers when they fell in love and have not been apart for twenty years.
“They wanted to grow old together,” Mario Cenacchi said.
“He had so many plans and dreams for the future of his children.
“His wife and children were the source of his joy. He was such a beautiful soul.”
Mr Cenacchi was the 69th person to die on the state’s roads in 2020.
The drivers of the four-wheel drive and truck, both male, were taken to hospital for minor injuries following the collision.
