If you live in Preston, Werribee or Dandenong — keep buying those lottery tickets because you live in one of Melbourne’s luckiest suburbs.
Tatts have crunched the numbers and revealed what they describe as the “luckiest suburbs” where Victorians have purchased winning division one lottery tickets over the past three years.
Over that time there’s been a whopping 486 division one winners totalling more than $747 million in prize money.
So where are Melbourne’s luckiest suburbs and do regional areas get a look in?
It’s no surprise Melbourne’s CBD has sold the most winning tickets between 2014 and 2016 — 10 in fact, with prize money totalling more than $12.6 million.
Equal second on the list is Preston and Werribee with seven first division wins — but those living in the north have a better prospect of winning big cash, with winners in Preston netting more than $8 million in total prize money compared to $4 million in Werribee.
Hoppers Crossing doesn’t fare too bad either, with six winners sharing in more than $8.4 million.
The south eastern suburbs are well represented on the top 10 list too, with Frankston, Dandenong and Berwick also making the list with five wins each.
Regional Victoria doesn’t miss out either, with six lucky division one winners in Mildura over the past three years.
They shared in $4.9 million.
It’s important not to forget we live in a digital world — with 72 Victorians who won first division with an entry purchased online.
Tatts spokeswoman Claire Taylor said while it’s exciting to reveal where the most lotto wins occur, it’s important to remember that lottery games are entertaining games of chance.
“Every number on your ticket has an equal chance of being drawn, no matter where you buy your ticket,” she said.
The data includes winners of all Tatts games including Tattslotto, Monday and Wednesday Lotto, Oz Lotto, Powerball, Lucky Lotteries, Super 66 and The Pools between January 1 2014 and 31 December 2016.
