John Farnham is being treated for a respiratory infection in hospital.
The slight setback follows Farnham’s ongoing recovery from successful surgery to remove his mouth cancer in August last year.
Farnham has been receiving treatment, care and rehabilitation support over recent months from his medical team.
However, his family said Farnham is being treated for a respiratory infection in hospital, but he is comfortable and receiving the very best care.
His wife Jill Farnham said on Friday: “John continues his recovery following last year’s successful surgery. He’s always been a strong and determined person with everything he’s ever done and we are all so very proud of him. He is responding well to the specialist care he’s receiving.”
The family expressed their appreciation for all the medical staff that have attended to John over the past six months, and for the kind messages that have been received from across Australia and the world.
Last month, Farnham’s close friend and co-manager the beloved singer was “going well” with his recovery.
Farnham, 73, has been quietly healing in Melbourne with the support of his family and long-time friends.
Mr Wilson said Farnham celebrated Christmas by entertaining family and guests at home as the compere of a game of music trivia.
Watercooler Talent managing partner, David Wilson, who is a close friend of the Farnham family and John’s co-manager, said the room was filled with laughter and joy as the much loved chart-topper posed various questions.
He was MC with the family all gathered around and we laughed like drains as we were all tested on our musical knowledge.”
On the progress of Farnham’s recovery Wilson said: “It is a process, it is slow and steady as she goes. He is going well.” Farnham underwent surgery on August 23.
