Pop sensation Tones And I says she had to be rescued by lifesavers on her wedding day after an incident offshore in Bali.
The singer-songwriter, born Toni Watson, married Jimmy Bedford in a secret ceremony in Bali earlier this month.
Watson said she was “overwhelmed” by the impending nuptials, and sought solace in the water on the morning of her wedding.
“My good friend Jack Mack ... even though he can’t swim, was swimming out in a kayak. So I ran over to him and jumped in the kayak … and said, ‘Let’s just go sit in the ocean for a bit in the kayak, where no one can reach us,’ Watson said on Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick breakfast show.
“Then the kayak started sinking, fully sank to the bottom, and the lifesavers had to come out, dive down and get the kayak back up to shore.”
Watson said her wedding to Victorian footballer Jimmy Bedford was beautiful.
“I know I made it look like a rave on social media, which was kind of what I was going for,” she said. “But it was really beautiful.”
But she said Bedford, a former tradesman who now tours with Tones And I as a stage technician, also needed rescuing on their wedding day - from his own hangover.
“We obviously split up into separate groups the night before the wedding. And he goes one way I go the other way … and then we see each other when we see each other in the altar or whatever you call it,” Watson said.
“The next morning, the boys were having breakfast, and they just heard (vomiting noises) from the bushes ... like 10am on our wedding day,” Watson said.
“He told me it’s the most hungover he’s ever been in his life, but a few Bintangs brought him back to life.
Bedford plays footy for the Frankston Bombers.
