Geelong Cats captain Joel Selwood has deleted a video from social media showing him pretending to use his wife Brit like a mop.
The video, which gained thousands of views on the TikTok platform and his Instagram feed, showed Selwood picking up Brit, turn her upside down, dip her into a bucket of water and use her wet hair to clean the floor.
The video was taken off Selwood’s account on Sunday and removed from Brit’s TikTok account yesterday.
Cats fans and other social media users appeared to rally around Selwood, despite the post drawing criticism on radio.
“People need to lighten up. This was really funny,” one user posted.
Another said: “Sad that he has had to delete this, based on the opinions of the minority.”
But some were critical of Selwood’s actions. “A lot of kids, boys and girls would look up to Joel Selwood, so what a horrible example of how to treat women he is showing them,” one person wrote.
Another said: “What were you thinking? Not funny mate,”
The short video was accompanied by the sound of The Clean Up Song.
Many users online said the video was a joke.
The Geelong Football Club did not respond to a request for comment.
Joel and Brit Selwood married in January this year.
