A woman allegedly murdered in the backyard of her home by her estranged husband has been identified as mother-of-four Czarina Gatbonton Tumaliuan.
Emergency services rushed to her Retford Close home in Werribee about 9am on Thursday where the 42-year-old was found dead with several stab wounds.
Her estranged husband Jessie Tumaliuan was covered in blood when police arrested him on Thursday at the home opposite a Catholic primary school.
The 41-year-old was hauled into the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday after he was charged overnight with her murder.
The pair shared four children.
Ms Tumaliuan ran her own clothing and accessories store and shared adoring social media posts about her young children.
It was understood Mr Tumaliuan was out on bail for other offences when he was arrested, but the Herald Sun has since confirmed that was not the case.
The court heard a pathology report would be prepared to determine Ms Tumaliuan’s cause of death, which is expected to take three months.
The prosecutor told the court several of her family members, who reside overseas, would be contacted by detectives and may provide statements.
It is understood many of her loved ones live in Manila in the Philippines.
Mr Tumaliuan’s defence lawyer told Magistrate Andrew Halse his client has no custody management issues and was not withdrawing from any substances.
Wearing a white shirt, the accused murderer stared straight ahead as he sat in the dock.
No one was in court to support him.
A neighbour said Mr Tumaliuan had a blank expression on his face on Thursday as he sat in handcuffs on the porch of the home.
Carlson, who was driving his son to school on Thursday morning, said the man’s torso was covered in blood.
“As I was driving down I saw a bloke sitting down on the veranda in handcuffs with blood on his shirt,” he said.
“It just looked like he was (mentally) in another place.”
Detectives could be seen gathering outside the house, located across the road from Bethany Catholic Primary School.
Resident Darren Fudyma said the school community would have been shaken by the incident.
“The kids will now be traumatised,” he said.
“It’s very strange to have that happen in this area with the school nearby.
“It’s a big shock … there is really no need for that type of behaviour.”
Police had reportedly been called to the property on several occasions.
No details of the alleged murder were aired in court.
Mr Tumaliuan made no application for bail and was remanded in custody.
He will return to court for a committal mention on July 31.
