OAKS Day may have been light on the big celebrity names we have seen trackside at Flemington in previous years but it was abundant in elegance and sophisticated style.
Living up to the tradition of ladylike glamour pretty pinks, florals, baby blues, mint and lemon were key colors of the day on the women in the Birdcage and the lawn, making the most of the much-needed sunshine.
Aussie Victoria’s Secret model Elyse Taylor stepped out in a stunning Alex Perry dress with pleated winged sleeve, but sadly no millinery to complete her outfit.

10 YEARS OF FLEMINGTON FASHION WITH HAWKINS
“I was supposed to wear a headpiece but it broke when we were trying to put it on,” she says.
Jennifer Hawkins was in full bloom on her final day as the face of Myer.
The former Miss Universe wore a brightly hued floral gown by Alex Perry paired with a dainty diamond encrusted hair clip by milliner Ezara J and Cerrone jewellers.
After 12 years as an ambassador for the retail giant, Hawkins waves goodbye to that role as she leaves the racetrack.
Hawkins said it was fitting that her final day of duty with the department store fell on Oaks Day.
“I’ve always loved Ladies Day, the women look gorgeous,” she said.
Megan Gale also cut a fine figure in floral Toni Maticevski drop waisted dress and Ford snake encrusted headband.
Making a return to hometown Melbourne, Montana Cox was a stand out in gold Zimmerman.
While Rachael Finch paired her shimmery pink mini dress by Nicola Finetti with a broad brimmed pink hat by Melissa Jackson, describing her ensemble as being inspired by her mum’s style in her 20s.
In the millinery department, exaggerated bows were a standout as were pearl and jewel encrusted crowns and headbands.
Structured pillbox styles and broad brimmed boater hats were also favoured by the fashion set.
FASHIONS ON THE FIELD
Carle Rutledge from Queensland took out the coveted national title in Myer Fashions on the Field competition in a feathered Roksanda dress and self- made headpiece.
“It’s a tribute to the Art Deco contemporary theme with the feathering and I made the hat myself,” she says.
A new generation of racegoers will now take over Myer Fashions on the Field on Saturday with best dressed categories for tots, teens and even while families.
Blush pinks, powdery lilacs, mint green, chalky blues and lemon all dominated the Myer Fashions on the Field enclosure.
Voluminous full skirts inspired by Dior’s 1950s “new look” were a standout on stage, juxtaposed with sharply tailored tuxedo suits in an array of pastel hues.
Florals were also popular with pretty petal prints and bold blooms as well as intricate floral lace designs.
