One in five Victorians will be voting in a new electorate for the first time at November’s state election.

The Victorian Electoral Commission has this week updated the register of electors to reflect changes following a boundary redivision.

The VEC said the new electoral boundaries would affect approximately 21 per cent of voters.

The changes formally come into effect on Tuesday 1 November, when the writs for the 2022 state election are issued.

The new boundaries are the result of the state redivision conducted last year by the Electoral Boundaries Commission (EBC).

The division was the first for Victoria in eight years.

Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately said voters could now check whether their electorates had changed at the VEC website.

“The VEC has updated the register of electors with the new district and region boundary changes,” Mr Gately said.

A review of the state’s electorates found 28 districts had either too many or too few enrolled voters.

A VEC analysis of the new electoral boundaries found Labor would have won two extra seats if they had applied at the 2018 election.

It showed the now-held ALP seats of Bayswater and Bass — held by first termers Jackson Taylor and Jordan Crugnale, respectively – would have fallen to the Liberals.

But Labor would manage to steal Caulfield, Hastings, Ripon and the newly established seat of Pakenham (which would replace the soon-to-be abolished area of Gembrook).
