Herald Sun readers have reacted angrily after it was revealed a convicted murderer who stabbed a mother to death over $50 has been given the green light to be released from a Victorian maximum security prison to undergo IVF treatment.

Alicia Schiller has been approved by authorities to receive the self-funded fertility treatment while housed as an inmate at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in Melbourne’s west, in a move slammed by one reader as “so wrong”.

Here’s what readers had to say about the news:

“She lost this right for the 16 years she was sentenced to jail for murder. And won’t this create an argument that all others inmates now have a right to have their dreams fulfilled too? Woke jail, do what ever you want here in Victoria!”

Donna

“If she has received money from a property, then that money should go to the children of the murdered mother. She has been convicted of murder, so in turn she has lost her rights, other than being fed and housed until released. That’s the price of being in prison.”

Mick

“I beg pardon what? How can this be allowed to happen? This incompetent state government must put a stop to this ludicrous situation … Who pays for this, the taxpayer yet again? The moment she committed the crime, was the moment she relinquished all rights that are available to law abiding human beings.”

Craig

“Does anyone consider the impact on the child having to live its formative years in prison?”

Peter

“Wow so wrong!”

Teresa K

“How on earth does her criminal history suggest she might be a suitable parent? The world is going mad!”

Jeanette

“This country is officially cooked. If we weren’t before, well we are now officially a laughing stock.”

Chris

“What a lousy start to life for any newborn child.”

Oscar

“Unbelievable. This place really has gone to the dogs. Only Labor could allow this to happen.

A distraction, from the debt bomb?”

Rob

“Disgusting she took a life, now she want to bring one into the world into a prison … really the laws really need to be looked at.”

Rodney

“What about the victim and her son’s right to a mother/child relationship?”

“I always thought convicted /jailed persons gave up all their rights for breaking the law. Here in Australia under Labor they are treated like “royalty”. Have more rights than their victims. How ludicrous.”

Geraldine

“Victoria, take a life, no problem the taxpayer will fund your wishes, after all, it’s only someone else’s money. No Labor, No Greens, No Labor puppet independents.”

John

“Great idea! Just increase land tax again to pay for the guards, legal, security, transport and extras child costs. This is just another stupid and unfair waste of money. Come on Herald Sun, lets do a top-1000 wastes of money. 1. railway tunnel — 120 billion, 2. Desalination plant 30 billion.”

Jim

“How was this ever considered in the first place? Who approved this? How is this acceptable? I’m in utter disbelief.”

Drew

“I am lost for words, this state seems to care more for the criminal than the victim.”

Allan
