A New Zealand man found dead in Melbourne’s southeast on Wednesday was killed more than a month before his body was discovered, a court has heard.

Police found 26-year-old Kiwi Zane Meyer in semi-rural land at Lysterfield following an investigation by missing persons squad detectives.

The woman accused of killing him, Nicole Anthea Anderson, 37, from Cranbourne, was arrested on Friday and faced court on Friday.

Ms Anderson made no application for bail and was remanded to reappear in court on September 11.

The Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard Ms Anderson was charged with murdering Mr Meyer some time between May 11 and May 13 in Oakleigh, about 20km west of Lysterfield, where Mr Meyer’s body was found.

Ms Anderson wore a pink jumper as she sat silently in the dock.

The court was told it was not her first time in custody.

Police this week issued a plea for information after Mr Meyer had not been heard from since May 11.

His friend Lexy Brady said Mr Meyer was also known by the name Rànbow Treè and loved the outdoors and music festivals.

“Zane loved soaking up the people and admiring nature,” she said.

“He had knowledge about things I couldn’t even dream of. He was so smart, just like his mum and dad.

“He didn’t have a mean bone in him — and I know people probably say that, but in all the years I never saw him be horrible to anyone.

“There was a sense of adventure in everything he did.”

He normally worked in the Victorian or New Zealand snow fields during winter and was a keen skateboarder and snowboarder.
