A NEW multi-million-dollar property, a prominent job and settling into his relationship look set to see Garry Lyon take 2017 by the horns.
The former AFL star and media identity took the 2016 season off work to deal with mental health issues.
His exit from public life followed a falling-out with best friend and fellow Footy Show TV panellist Billy Brownless after Lyon started a relationship with Brownless’s ex-wife.
Lyon told the Herald Sun on Friday he was looking forward to a more positive 2017.
“Hopefully, hopefully,” Lyon said in his trademark laconic style.
Lyon is reticent to go into detail about his relationship with Nicky Brownless, but close friends say they are very happy together.
Despite shying from the limelight, the pair were spied at an open inspection at a multi-million-dollar Armadale property. But it appears Lyon opted for a $2 million-plus getaway on the Mornington Peninsula.
The 20ha eco-friendly farm is described as a “romantic escape” for those who want to be “off the grid”.
Surrounded by wildlife and national parkland, the retreat, which featured in Australian House and Garden magazine, is the perfect weekend getaway once Lyon returns to SEN with Hamish McLachlan and Tim Watson in his new breakfast show radio role on January 30.
The former Melbourne captain opened up earlier this year about his battle with mental health demons as he sought professional help.
This month, Lyon said he was pleased with his return to the airwaves. “Being part of the very first breakfast show on SEN was great and it is a privilege to be back on the 1116 airwaves again,” he said.
No doubt wanting to put 2016 well and truly behind him, Lyon said on Friday he would be lying low on New Year’s Eve, doing “nothing, absolutely nothing”.
