Former Collingwood champion Dane Swan has questioned why he was forced to pay for an interlock device after drink-driving, adding he “probably drank-drove more than a handful of times” without being caught.
“I know I’ve done the wrong thing and I’m willing to cop the consequences but I’m not willing to pay for them,” Swan said on the first episode of the Hump Day with Scotty and Swanny podcast.
“If VicRoads want me to have an interlock, howsabout (sic) you pay for it, VicRoads?”

Swan blew .054 in September last year, resulting in a $484 fine and a three-month loss of license, and is required to have an interlock device hooked up to his car.
The 2011 Brownlow Medallist says he “had about eight hours sleep and woke up and felt completely fine” after a night out celebrating the Grand Final Footy Show prior to being caught driving over the legal limit.
Although Swan says he would “never intentionally” drink and drive, he admitted he’s likely driven under the influence more than once.
“Looking back I’ve probably drank-drove more than a handful of times, going to training the next morning (after a night out) or just doing it.”
Swan also opened up about his recent night out with Hollywood superstars Matt Damon and Chris Hemsworth.
The trio were spotted together at the Albion Rooftop Bar in South Melbourne — a venue Swan co-owns — following the UFC event at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday.
“I didn’t chew their ears off. I wasn’t going to hang around them all night just because they were there. I had things to do and people to see myself,” Swan said.
“I had a couple of drinks and said hello and talked a bit of sh*t about the UFC and just boring chitchat as you do and got out of their hair before they got sick of me.”
Swan described Damon as “really fun”, revealing the star of the Bourne films “even went upstairs with the rest of us plebs and commoners”.
“[Damon] got on the dance floor and had a boogie with … I assume it was his wife.
“If it wasn’t, I’ve just dropped him in it.
“He was lovely … He said thanks for looking after us.”
