A group of teenagers has been charged after leading police on a high-speed chase across Melbourne in two allegedly stolen cars on Tuesday night.

Five teenagers have been charged after leading police on a high-speed chase through Melbourne in two allegedly stolen cars.

The group of teens – two 15-year-olds, a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds – stole an employees’ car keys from a convenience store on High St in Armadale about 10.40pm on Tuesday night, police allege.

Half of the group took off in the store attendant’s MG wagon, while the others fled in an allegedly already stolen Nissan X-Trail.

The five then reportedly attempted a robbery a short time later at a convenience store on Camberwell Rd in Hawthorn East about 11.20pm.

The Nissan X-Trail, which had allegedly been stolen from a Mooroolbark residential driveway on Friday, was followed by multiple police units and Air Wing across a number of suburbs including Carlton, Blackburn and the CBD.

It was halted using stop sticks on Mount Alexander Rd in Ascot Vale about 12.40am.

It’s believed the stolen MG was then dumped

The group were later arrested on Kerr St in Fitzroy.

A 17-year-old Sunbury child sustained a minor injury to his hand during the ordeal and was taken to hospital for treatment.

He has been charged by summons with two counts of theft of motor vehicle, two counts of attempted burglary and robbery. He is due to appear at a court at a later date.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with two counts of motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving whilst pursued by police, two counts of attempted burglary and possessing cannabis.

He briefly appeared in a Children’s Court on Wednesday afternoon where he was remanded in custody.

Charge sheets allege the boy stole a Nissan X-Trail in Fitzroy and an MG in Armadale.

He also allegedly attempted to steal from an IGA in Armadale and an Ampol in Hawthorn.

The boy will return to court on April 12.

The remaining children, a 17-year-old boy from Flemington, a 15-year-old boy from Oakleigh South and a 15-year-old child from Botanic Ridge have been charged with two counts of theft of motor vehicle, two counts of attempted burglary and robbery. They are expected to appear at a court at a later date.

It comes after four teenagers were also charged after allegedly leading police on a wild car chase that ended in a dramatic arrest at a Sunbury shopping centre carpark on Monday.

It’s alleged the teens broke into two homes and attempted a carjacking in Mickleham while armed with machetes.

The teenagers allegedly left the scene in a stolen vehicle and were chased by Air Wing police as they drove through Wyndham Vale, Werribee and suburbs northwest of Melbourne.

There are currently an additional 70 officers rostered each night as part of Victoria Police’s Operation Trinity, in an attempt to crack down on youth crime.

This includes frontline officers, Highway Patrol members, the Dog Squad, Public Order Response Team and Air Wing.

Investigations are continuing into the location of the stolen MG wagon.
