Edward Alan Rowen was remanded in custody on Thursday night after appearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of his wife Rosalie on Boxing Day.
Rowen, 83, will reappear on Friday where police are expected to make an application to obtain DNA.
The court heard he was feeling the cold and was fragile due to his age and would require a blanket in custody.
Rowen sat with his arms folded and wore a black t-shirt for his brief appearance.
Rosalie, 79, was found with life-threatening injuries at a home in Melbourne Rd just after 10pm on Saturday.
