An elderly woman says she was assaulted by a policeman at a northern suburbs hospital.

An officer was this month charged over the alleged attack on Sylvia Villani, 70, at the Northern Hospital in Epping in April.

Mrs Villani told Channel 9 she was in a wheelchair when the officer struck her.

She said she was left with a broken eye socket after the alleged incident.

“It was painful. I can’t walk. I can’t sit. I’m buggered,” Mrs Villani said.

She said she had called the officer some “nasty words” but did not deserve what happened.

A constable from the northwest metro region has been charged after an internal investigation.

He is facing one count of recklessly causing injury.
