A young man has been charged with assaulting 17-year-old Will Connolly — the teen dubbed “Egg Boy” after he cracked an egg on the back of Senator Fraser Anning’s head.
The 20-year-old West Footscray man was interviewed as police probed reports of the Hampton boy being kicked at the Moorabbin scuffle, which made headlines all over the world.

“Police were monitoring a speaking engagement which had been organised at a venue on Roberna St about 2pm,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
“The speeches had concluded when an altercation took place between a 17-year-old Hampton boy and a 69-year-old Queensland man.
“An egg was broken on the 69-year-old man’s head by the 17-year-old boy when a scuffle took place and the teenager was taken to the ground by bystanders.”
While Connolly was being held on the ground, he was allegedly approached, then kicked him in the body a number of times.
Earlier this week, detectives delivered an official caution to the teen, while the Queensland senator also escaped charges.
“On assessment of all the circumstances, the 69-year-old’s actions were treated as self-defence and there was no reasonable prospect of conviction,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said.
The man has been released and will be charged on summons with assault by kicking.
