Top comics have backed Will Connolly, known as “egg boy” after he smashed an egg on the back of Senator Fraser Anning’s head at a far-right rally in Moorabbin and filmed it.
“I think if you’re in support of 50 innocent people getting killed then an egg to the back of the head is fair treatment,” said Tommy Little.
“I thought Senator Anning’s reaction was disgusting; the first slap I understand, but for a Senator to then look at a 17-year-old boy who wasn’t attacking him and slap him again?
“When a politician is trying to beat up a kid then we’ve got big problems. A politician that got 19 votes.”

“I think Egg Boy is a hero, obviously,” said Wil Anderson.
“If you’re going to be egged, a close-up egging is the best kind of egging.
“With a long distance egging there’s some velocity, it can hit you like a bullet. Right up close in the back of the head is fine.
“The Senator reacted as you’d expect a right wing Nazi to react — in a terrible way. I say nominate Egg Boy for Australian of the Year.”
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the “full force of the law” should be applied to the senator for assaulting the teenager.
Barry Award nominated comic Anne Edmonds “loves the direct action of the egg, we’re all sick of think pieces and opinion pieces. An egg in the back of the head sorts it out”.

Comic Rhys Nicholson said: “Egg Boy gives me hope for the future, it’s young people doing something.
“Senator Anning turns around, clocks a 17-year-old kid, and punches him ... twice.”
Joel Creasey said he hoped Senator Anning “gets done for it”.
Becky Lucas is also a fan of the teen protester.
“I love Egg Boy, it was exactly what we needed. We needed a hero and it was so cool to watch Senator Anning snap,” Lucas said.
“Egg boy will be getting girls for the rest of his life.”
But breaking rank with his fellow comedians, Adam Hills tweeted: “I’m not OK with the kid in Australia egging a politician.
“It was not OK when someone did it to Jeremy Corbyn last week, and I don’t think it’s OK to do it to Fraser Anning.
“It makes him a victim, and emboldens his supporters. Take him down with wit, rules and due process.”
To answer your questions: I think Fraser Anningâs words are abhorrent. His reaction to the egging was appalling. I still donât think he should be egged. Iâm fine with all those opinions. I understand if youâre not.

Dave Hughes has a take on that.
“I know when Adam Hills reacted to the egg boy story he started trending on Twitter and I’ll tell you what, you never wanna trend on Twitter,” said Hughesy.
“That’s what I love about Adam, he’s unpredictable.”
Connolly’s Instagram followers have jumped from 2000 to nearly 500,000 in two days.
“Now I’m jealous of egg boy,” Nicholson quipped.
A GoFundMe page for Connolly has raised more than $40,000. Connolly has said he will donate some of the money to the victims of the Christchurch mosque massacre.
