Daylesford pub crash: Mount Macedon driver is insulin-dependent diabetic
A top Melbourne lawyer for the driver of a car that ploughed into a Daylesford pub and left five people dead has revealed his client’s health condition.

The driver of a car that ploughed through the Daylesford pub, leaving five people dead, is an insulin-dependent diabetic, his lawyer has revealed.
Top Melbourne lawyer Martin Amad, who is representing the unnamed 66-year-old Mount Macedon man, on Wednesday revealed his client’s health condition.
“What happened in Daylesford on Sunday, November 5, was a terrible tragedy,” Mr Amad said in a statement.
“My client has been interviewed by Victoria Police. He has not been charged with any offence.
“It’s anticipated that the investigation will take some time.
“He is deeply distressed and feels great empathy with the families and friends of the victims and of the wider Daylesford community.
“My client is a 66-year-old family man who has no criminal history.
“He returned a negative alcohol reading at the scene. He is an insulin-dependent diabetic and required immediate treatment by paramedics at the scene. He remains in hospital.”
The driver was interviewed by Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives on Tuesday evening.
Pratibha Sharma, her partner Jatin and their daughter Anvi, 9, as well as Vivek and Vihaan Bhatia all died at the scene.
Ruchi Bhatia and her son Abeer, 6, are recovering in hospital.
A 38-year-old Cockatoo man and a 43-year-old Kyneton woman were also injured.
