Country Cob Bakery in the Macedon Ranges town has taken out the top honour at the Baking Association of Australia’s annual pie competition for its satay seafood pie.
Owner Chan Khun, who took over the bakery two years ago, took home a total of seven trophies from the competition held on the Gold Coast.

Judges tasted more than 1700 pies and pasties from bakeries around Australia over three days, and also awarded Country Cob the best mince pie, best seafood pie, best vegetarian pie and best vegetarian pastie in the country.
Mr Khun said the secret of his pie success was the pastry.
“Our pastry is very good, not too thick, not too thin. A flaky top and crunchy on the bottom,” he said.
“The satay seafood has lots of spice, some sweetness and that peanut butter feel to the filling.”
It’s the second year running the bakery has won the Australia’s best mince pie in the competition.
“It was a great year for us (in the competition), we took half of the trophies available home to Kyneton,” he said.
Word of his pastry prowess is spreading, with some customers driving for two hours to try the pies.
“To win the customer’s heart is hard, so we work very hard to keep them coming back.”
