“What a thrill to be Moomba Queen,’’ Swan said.
“Six-year-old Chrissie would not believe it if I had told her that one day it would be her on the float in the parade. It truly is a dream come true.’’
Jimmy Giggle (aka Jimmy Rees) said he was pleased to be a part of this year’s family-themed event.
“What a hoot it is to be named Moomba King this year,’’ he said.
The 64th Moomba carnival will be held on the Labour Day weekend, March 9 to 12.
Swan urged families to come out and enjoy the fun.
“My advice is to get out. Get out the house and come in and have an adventure,’ she said.
Acting Lord Mayor Arron Wood announced the monarchs this morning in the Domain Parklands, which only yesterday was added to the National Heritage List.
Moomba events include the Birdman Rally, Moomba Parade, waterskiing on the Yarra and skating competitions.
New attractions include Dance Zone for performances and workshops for the family, The Dreaming Space which will feature magic shows, circus acts and pantomime, as well as kids’ yoga.
