Channel 10 gives viewers programming power over eight new shows

CHANNEL Ten is giving programming power back to the people, with viewers getting a say in which of eight TV shows Channel 10 will pursue, with the line-up including shock jock Kyle Sandilands, former host Rove McManus and shunned politician Sam Dastyari.

CHANNEL 10 is turning to people power with a Pilot Week of eight new programs set to screen from August 19.

The revolutionary event, to be hosted by Grant Denyer and Angela Bishop, will give Aussie television viewers their biggest say ever in the shows they want to see on air.

Ten’s line-up includes the J udge Judy-style Trial by Kyle with shock jock Kyle Sandilands and The Bachelor Australia star and criminal lawyer Anna Heinrich solving ­disputes.

Another high-profile show is Disgrace! from the makers of Gruen and The Chaser, with shunned politician Sam ­Dastyari.

Rove McManus is jumping into Hey Hey It’s Saturday territory with the live B ring Back … Saturday Night variety show.

Viewers will be encouraged to decide what gets commissioned and what gets canned with feedback via the tenplay site and social media.

The other shows in the Pilot Week line-up include Fast Forward-style sketch comedy show Skit Happens, with a team headed by Heath Franklin, as well as Dave O’Neil’s half-hour comedy Dave.

Troy Kinne, who fronted comedy show Kinne on 7mate in 2014 and 2015, is on Ten with Kinne Tonight.

Flight of the Conchords star Rhys Darby and Stephen Curry (The Castle) will do an Aussie version of the hit comedy Drunk History, where an inebriated narrator tries to recount an event from history.

Taboo sees radio’s Harley Breen spending five nights with a disadvantaged group in society and using the experience to perform a stand-up routine about them — with the subjects in the front row.

The only other comparable event is ABC’s anthology ­series Comedy Showroom in 2016, trialling six pilots including The Letdown and Ronny Chieng: International Student.
