A MAN has been charged with the murder of Ballarat mother Dannyll Goodsell after her body was found by emergency crews responding to a house fire on Friday morning.

Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 35-year old Mount Pleasant man in Ballarat on Saturday afternoon.

The man has been charged with one count of murder and will appear at the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Dannyll Goodsell’s badly injured body was discovered by emergency crews as they responded to a fire at a Mount Pleasant unit about 8am on Friday.

Ms Goodsell was found dead at the home in the suburb of Mount Pleasant this morning.

Emergency crews were initially called to investigate smoke at the unit but instead made the disturbing discovery.

Police quickly suspected the woman had been deliberately attacked, not injured in a fire.

They are looking for evidence including DNA left by the killer, or killers, and hunting for a murder weapon.

“We will always be a family,” she wrote on Facebook.

“I’ll always love you and you’ll always have a piece of my heart and be in there forever.”

Another friend said Ms Goodsell’s death had left her “broken”.

“She was my best friend,” she told the Herald Sun.

Ms Goodsell moved from NSW to the Ballarat region about three years ago.

She had a son and daughter.

A fundraiser page has been established to raise money for the young children.

“We need to bring her back home to NSW so she may now have that peace she desired and to be with her two children,” it read.

“We also need to raise money for the children so they can be cared for in the best way possible whilst dealing with this tragic loss.”

Ballarat Inspector Greg Payne said police were keen to speak to witnesses who saw anything unusual in the area, such as anyone running away or a suspicious car.

“We’ve been interviewing witnesses and friends of the deceased in relation to their knowledge,” Inspector Payne said.

“There has been extensive door-to-door canvassing of the area.”
