More than 1000 people may have had their legal cases tainted by gangland lawyer turned police informer Nicola Gobbo, the royal commission examining the legal crisis has heard.

The extraordinary revelation comes on the final day of public hearings in the inquiry into one of Victoria’s biggest ever legal scandal.

The Commission is awaiting further documents relating to 1297 people who were legally represented or received legal advice from Gobbo, dubbed Lawyer X, to investigate whether their cases had been impacted and to what extent.

More than 81 witnesses have given evidence from the witness box during 127 days of public hearings which began more than a year ago.
