A PREGNANT pause is looming for The Footy Show with co-host Rebecca Maddern expecting her first child in May.

“I was The Footy Show’s first lady and now I am going to have The Footy Show’s first baby — it is quite strange,” Maddern said.

“I told Sam (Newman) and Ed (McGuire) on Friday and had a great conversation with both of them.

“Sam is a dad and a grandad, and Ed is a dad, so I have got plenty of support around me. They probably know more than I do so I might be leaning on them for help and advice.”

Madden said she would be part of as many episodes of the long-running, iconic show as practical in the lead up to the birth of her baby in May and would film the second series of Australian Ninja Warrior in December as planned.

“At this stage I plan to be part of The Footy Show for as much as I possibly can in 2018, although in saying that, it is really hard to set a timeline when a baby is involved,” she said.

“I have had a great discussion with Channel 9 and I certainly do plan to be part of The Footy Show.

“I have just got over my morning sickness which I renamed 24/7 sickness. I suffered quite badly with morning sickness just towards the end of The Footy Show (in September).

“I was quite self conscious standing out the front (of the stage) at the Grand Final Footy Show dancing as Beyonce. It is amazing what you can do when the red light comes on.

“Then after The Footy Show I was pretty much at home in bed. To be honest I was feeling quite poorly. I feel a little bit tired now but I feel really, really great.”

Maddern, 40, said motherhood had always been in her plans.

“Trent (Miller, her husband) and I have for many years been focused on our careers. We have had lots of travel and we have worked really hard and the universe has somewhat decided this is the right time (to have a child) and we feel really blessed.

“We are really, really over the moon, it was a lovely surprise and we are absolutely delighted and thrilled.”

Maddern posted her news on Instagram on Friday night, publishing a photo of a cuddly teddy bear, sock bootees and a blanket neatly placed on an armchair.

“Can’t wait for our new arrival in 2018!” she wrote in the corresponding caption.

Maddern has given no indication as to the gender of her bub with husband, Trent Miller, opting for strong but neutral tones in the photo published.

Maddern, who is the Geelong Cats No. 1 ticket holder, became the first female host on The AFL Footy Show when she joined last year.

Sports fans and identities were among the hundreds that offered congratulations in the immediate wake of the news.
