I haven’t spoken to Trev since I’ve been back (from TV industry events in Cannes), but we’re gonna catch up.
“We’ll have a chat to the great man and see what’s going on.”
Marmalade starred in the first incarnation of Channel Nine’s flagship AFL show alongside McGuire and Sam Newman.
“Part of the joy of doing The Footy Show in the first place was Trev behind the bar, Sam’s sense of humour, and all the humour coming out from all the players. Footy has that natural taking-the-mickey-out-of-each-other appeal to it.
“In the last few years, the seriousness of football has almost become a burden to everybody. It can be a grind sometimes. We have to get back to why we love the game, which is the fun, the camaraderie, and the stupid things that happen in football clubs sometimes.”
McGuire’s comments follow funnyman Dave Hughes’ decision to quit The Footy Show to host a new show on Channel 10.
“Hughesy is a quality person and a quality entertainer,” McGuire said.
“I think his performance at the Grand Final edition (of The Footy Show) was as good as anything he’s ever done, including the Logies, which shows, once again, the stage is his natural element.
McGuire added: “Hopefully, we’ll get him back during the back half of (next) year to do some shows.”
McGuire attended Channel Nine’s 2018 program launch with other network stars Bec Maddern, Shane Warne, Scott Cam and Rebecca Judd.
