That’s one more than Herald Sun tipping winner Chris Cavanagh — and way ahead of many of the other 29 experts.

“I feel pretty bloody good … pretty bloody clever!” says Brian, from Point Lonsdale. “And a lot of those experts were former footballers, too, and they finished down the track.”

Footy talent runs in Brian’s blood — he played for the Saints in the VFL from 1952 to 1955, and his grandson, Port Melbourne player Jordan Lisle, topped the VFL goalkicking chart this year.

Brian’s prize for beating his tipping colleagues from Wollongong and Wagga Wagga was Tattslotto tickets, but sadly they failed to deliver the cash bonanza he surely deserves.

Brian is known in his tipping group as “The Guru” for consistently keeping up with the top three in the Herald Sun expert panel year after year.

“I don’t take a lot of time, but I understand footy,” he says.

“I look at the position on the ladder, the teams, the match-ups, the ins and outs, what the weather’s going to be like, the ground it’s going to be played on for home ground advantage, the depth of the side — the A grades, B grades and then the rest.

“But it’s pure good luck!”
