AFL tipping: Mooroolbark four-year-old Addison a footy tips star

THINK you are a better AFL tipster than a four-year-old? Chances are pint-sized tipping guru Addison has you covered.

LITTLE Addison may be too small for school but she is old enough to be a pint-sized footy tipping guru.

The Mooroolbark preschooler has astounded her family and friends by shooting to the top of their AFL tipping competition with a no-nonsense approach.

The Melbourne fan enters the second last round of the season on 122 tips — more than a vast amount of tipsters nationwide.

Her tally is on par with Herald Sun tipping leader Chris Cavanagh — but well clear of all the other so-called experts.

Her nan Rebecca Oleszek said she often tried to talk Addison out of her selections but has been proved wrong time and again.

“I really don’t know her strategy but I should have copied it earlier,’’ she said.

“I can’t find a pattern to who she picks but it’s definitely working because she is averaging about seven tips.’’

Maddison said the secret to her success was simple.

“I just guess that they’re going to win,’’ she said.

Her nan reads the matches to Addison each Thursday evening, usually while she is colouring in or watching TV, and gets an answer instantly.

Great grandad Olly Oleszek said last week’s five correct selections was low by Maddison’s standards and the family was growing used to being shown up by its youngest member.

“One week she picked all the away teams and we all thought there was no chance but she got all but one correct,’’ he said. “She just takes it in her stride.’’

Maddison’s prize, should she win her family tipping comp, is a trophy and ice cream of her choice.

And with a commanding five-match lead, Rebecca said the uncanny footy tipping junior was talk of the town.

“I’m pretty much the laughing stock of work because all my colleagues know I’m getting beaten by a four-year-old,’’ she said.
