MORE than 50 people were arrested on the streets of Richmond over the weekend in a bid to clean up the suburb’s drug scourge.
Operation Chaplin was launched in April and saw police from Fitzroy, Collingwood and Richmond join forces with Yarra Crime detectives to charge 33 people with drug-related offences including trafficking and possession.
The ongoing investigation will focus on drug dealing, property crime and crimes against the person on Richmond streets.

Detectives arrested seven people for indictable offences including theft and proceeds of crime, as well as 11 people for summary offences which included bail offences and proceeds of crime.
Six weapons were seized and 19 outstanding warrants were executed.
Priority Tasking Unit Senior Constable Ian Turner said the results were a good start to the ongoing operation.
“Our ultimate aim is to make Richmond a safe and enjoyable precinct where people feel confident to go about their daily lives, at any time of the day, without fear of becoming a victim of crime,” Snr Con Turner said.
“Operations just as Chaplin will send a clear message to wrongdoers that Richmond is not the place to conduct their unlawful business or activities,” he said.
