Sam Philp from Adelaide died in Craigmore crash dropping his kids to school

A dad has been remembered after he died while dropping his two children to school in a devastating crash in Adelaide’s north.

Sam Philp was dropping his two children to school when every family’s worst nightmare occurred.

Sam’s black Volkswagen sedan and a 48-year-old man’s white Holden sedan collided on Uley Rd, near Beatrix Dr at Craigmore on January 31.

In the car were the 49-year-old father and his children, Jett and Leila.

Sam, from Hewett, tragically died at the scene, while the children were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The tragedy has left Sam’s partner and the siblings’ mum Kirsty devastated.

South Australian construction company Ahrens Group has created a fundraiser to support the Philp family during this heartbreaking time.

“We are hoping to come together to help Kristy and her family cover funeral expenses and ease the financial burden they are facing,” it reads.

Uley Rd resident Eileen Johnson, 76, said that the “almighty bang” of the crash sent her running outside.

“I came out to the gate and looked up, and saw there had been a big impact,” Ms Johnson said.

“Cars came up across the street, parked across the road, then police came, fire engines came, ambulances came.

“There was a woman screaming, ‘Save him, save him, save him’, and the children in the car were taken into the ambulance.

“They were very shaken … I don’t know whether she was part of the party with the gentleman.”

She shared her condolences to the victim’s family and the surviving children.

“It must have been horrific for them,” she said.
