A 49-year-old father who was driving his children to school has died in crash at Craigmore, in Adelaide’s north.
Just after 8.30am on Friday morning, police responded to reports of a collision between a black Volkswagen sedan and a white Holden sedan on Uley Rd, near Beatrix Dr.
The driver of the Volkswagen, from Hewett, died at the scene, and two children in the car were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The 48-year-old male driver of the Holden, from Paralowie, was also taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was assisting police with their investigation.
Uley Rd resident Eileen Johnson, 76, said that the “almighty bang” of the crash sent her running outside.
“I came out to the gate and looked up, and saw there had been a big impact,” Ms Johnson said.
“Cars came up across the street, parked across the road, then police came, fire engines came, ambulances came.
“There was a woman screaming, ‘Save him, save him, save him’, and the children in the car were taken into the ambulance.
“They were very shaken... I don’t know whether she was part of the party with the gentleman.”
Ms Johnson, a 16-year resident of the road said, “there were some speeders” on the road, although it is unknown if dangerous driving played a role in the crash.
She shared her condolences to the victim’s family and the surviving children.
“It must have been horrific for them,” she said.
Road closures are in place and police are urging motorists to avoid the area.
At 12pm, the white Holden remained sideways on the road while Major Crash officers investigated the scene.
At the point on Uley Rd where the cars collided, the speed limit drops from 80 to 60km/h heading citybound, going 100km/ h minutes earlier.
Road closures are in place between Chapman Dr and Cornishmans Hill Rd.
There have so far been 12 lives lost on South Australian roads this year.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage to contact them.
