A man who allegedly threatened service station staff with a large butane torch while trying to steal goods from the store has been arrested.

A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening to burn staff at a service station with a butane torch at Peterborough.

Police responded to reports a man was armed with the butane torch while attempting to steal goods from the store about 10.30am Sunday.

It will be alleged the man produced “a large butane burner” and threatened staff who confronted him while inside the store.

Police said the man burned items with the torch before police arrived on scene and arrested him without incident.

The 29-year-old Salisbury North man was searched and police alleged he was found in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine, a drug pipe and prescription drugs – that were not prescribed to him.

He was charged with common assault, threaten to damage property, disorderly behaviour and possess a prescription drug.

He was bailed to appear in the Peterborough Magistrates Court on December 4.
