Mount Morgan residents are being warned about smoke in the area as a hazard reduction burn is carried out.

The Queensland Fire Department issued an advice level warning at 11am for the surrounding area due to a hazard reduction burn near Mount Morgan Mine.

The QFD reported the fire was under control and no properties were under risk.

The advice warning was still current at 2pm

Residents who are being affected are advised to do the following;

• Stay inside and close windows and doors.
• Keep respiratory medication close by.
• Avoid driving through smoke if you can.
• Watch out for firefighters working in the area.
• Do not fly drones around the fire as drones affect air operations.
