A 21-year-old man has been charged after a car owner was slashed with a machete during an attempted early morning carjacking in Brisbane’s south on Saturday.

Police allege that at 6am a 48-year-old man was in his car on Audrey St at Camp Hill when he was approached by two men armed with a machete.

They allegedly threatened the man and demanded his car keys, but he refused to hand them over.

He was then allegedly assaulted before the men fled in a Kia Sorento.

It was found abandoned nearby. Police allege two BMWs were stolen from a different street in the suburb.

The injured man suffered cuts to his chest and arm and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The wife of the man who was attacked thanked a tradie who drove up the street while the incident was occurring and stopped to help.

“Who knows how much worse it could have been,” she wrote on social media.

She said her husband was ok and “has been stitched up in hospital”.

“It’s so scary how violence is increasing in our beautiful community.”

Police attended an address in Redcliffe where the 21-year-old man was arrested about 11am.

One of the stolen BMWs was located at the same address, police say.

The 21-year-old Petrie man has been charged with 10 offences including two counts each of enter dwelling and commit, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempted enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and one count each of wounding, unlawful use of a motor vehicle (use in indictable offence) and attempted armed robbery in company.

He has been denied bail and is expected to appear at Redcliffe Magistrates Court on March 17.

Anyone with dashcam or CCTV is urged to contact police.

Investigations are continuing.
