Sekisui House unveils next stage of Melrose Park apartment development

Plans for more than 400 apartments surrounding a major Sydney road have been unveiled just as a $2bn pledge to extend the Parramatta light rail into that community was made.

A total of 468 apartments worth $450m will form the sixth stage of a project to transform industrial land into a sprawling resort-style complex with a rooftop pool and recreation deck.

Future inhabitants of Sekisui House’s two-tower behemoth off Victoria Rd will be able to catch the second leg of the Parramatta light rail, with NSW Premier Chris Minns this week confirming $2bn would be allocated to the 12km extension from Parramatta CBD to Sydney Olympic Park.

Architecture firm GroupGSA has designed the units, which are part of the second planning submission for Melrose Park filed with the Sydney Central City Planning Panel this year.

An application for the fifth stage for 368 apartments was submitted in March.

Stage six’s buildings range from 20 to 24 storeys and will form part of the 30-hectare Melrose Park masterplan, which is expected to house 6000 new apartments once the 18 stages are complete.

Sekisui House Australia project director Alex Grujovski said the development would offer a mix of multi-generational apartments, and one, two and three-bedroom units, if approved.

“A huge transformation is under way at Melrose Park and stage six will be the first stage to truly signify this transformation and what’s to come,” he said.

Mr Grujovski welcomed the 14-stop Parramatta light rail extension, which he said would provide convenience for residents.

“It unlocks the long-awaited public transport link connecting Melrose Park with Wentworth Point, with direct access between Sydney Olympic Park and Parramatta CBD,’’ he said.

GroupGSA principal and project lead Alister Eden said the proposed residential design served a wide range of demographics.

“Situated as the most northerly and topographically elevated site in the precinct, the two towers will contribute to this evolving skyline and serve as key urban markers along the Victoria Rd corridor,” he said.

Landscape architects Aspect Studio also designed the rooftop pool and recreation deck, where residents can soak in panoramic views towards the Parramatta River and Sydney Olympic Parklands.

At the ground level, a lush, landscaped area will link residents with the 17,586sq m central park, schools and future town centre.

Stage six is due for completion in 2027 and the masterplan’s anticipated completion date is 2039.
