A Northern Rivers man who allegedly forcibly entered an elderly man’s home and inflicted severe injuries which eventually led to his death in hospital is considering a plea bargain, his lawyer told the court.

Alexander Repin, 49, was in for mention in Lismore Local Court before Magistrate Michael Dakin on Wednesday.

He was charged with murder and a related offence of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

No pleas have yet been entered.

Legal Aid solicitor Phillip Crick told the court his client was in custody and wasn’t obliged to appear before the court.

Repin was arrested nearby and taken to Lismore Police Station, where he was charged with a number of offences, some later withdrawn and upgraded to a murder charge when the alleged victim died.

Mr Dakin allowed the adjournment, confirming with Crick it would be a committal for the next appearance.

There was no application for bail and Repin was ordered to appear via audio visual link for case conference at Lismore Local Court on July 16.
