Agricultural students in southwest Sydney have been busy making sure their prized exhibits are ready for this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Students from Elizabeth Macarthur High School at Narellan have been spending their afternoons training, conditioning and grooming sheep, cattle and pumpkins for the show circuit. The school has a long-running history with the show with students showing cattle and produce since 1997.
Year 11 student Rebecca Halcomb dreams of studying livestock veterinary science and is happy to be putting in the extra hours after school. She will be showing her school’s Poll Dorset ewes.
“We’ve been working with handling the sheep, clipping, feeding, checking their weight and washing them to get them ready for the show,” Rebecca said.
“The Poll Dorsets are a dual purpose sheep but we mainly focus on the meat.”
Miss Halcomb will be showing the poll dorset ewes at this year’s show which runs from April 1st to April 12.
