BANDY & JOHNSON
Huge hoofs will stomp into GIANTS Stadium every day of the Show when the Bandy & Johnson Working Draught Horse team comes to town.
For the first time in Sydney, city dwellers can catch a glimpse of yesteryear as Steve Johnson and 14 horses pull a wool wagon, along with three drivers and a brake operator.
The show is a piece of living history and pays tribute to the remarkable horses, horsemen and women who helped build our nation.
It may be more than 100 years since tractors started replacing the mighty draught horse in Australian agriculture, but they still hold a huge place in the hearts of every horse lover, Mr Johnson said.
“I once had a tractor but it kept going wrong, so I thought horses will do just as fine,” he said.
Mr Johnson continues to train Australian draught horses and Clydesdales on his Lake Cargelligo farm. Almost every day, they plough and harvest his wheat and crops.
“Our performance will be a great lesson in Australian history for all showgoers,” he said.
