NSW
Don't miss out on the headlines from NSW. Followed categories will be added to My News.
It would be hard to find another event where you can roam for hours and hours and be gobsmacked with awe at almost every turn.
But that’s the Sydney Royal Easter Show in a nutshell.
From thrilling rides to the biggest array of activities and animals, there is something for everyone. We’ve come up with some of our favourite experiences.
BEST RIDES
From traditional show favourite like dodgem cars to adrenaline charged thrill-rides, this year’s carnival zone is worth strapping yourself in for. For those with stomachs of steel there are new rides including the Wild Mouse roller coaster, the Wipeout and Aviator, while other new additions include the Giant Wheel. The Beast is back ready to soar riders 45m into the air on a giant pendulum, and the Extreme will turn you inside out and upside down in wild ride. Kids can enjoy their own special carnival zone, with Tea Cup rides, and an Enchanted Circus.
FOR KIDS
The Little Hands on the Land exhibit will transform The Paddock into a kid-sized working farm, to teach children where their food comes from. It’s a free activity that takes children through nine stations including a chook shed, vegetable patch, fruit orchard and outback tractor pull. The Little Big Top Amphitheatre will play host to many great live events for kids from April 2, including PAW Patrol, Shimmer & Shine Genie Dance Party and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
DATE NIGHT
Visit the Show for after-dark magic and a whole new level of entertainment. Have a romantic ride on the famous Show ferris wheel at dusk and visit GIANTS Stadium for the evening entertainment. Then on Hawkesbury St a chilled wine awaits at award-winning The Stables. Delicious desserts at the The Truck Stop include wafflepopz on a stick smothered in your choice of treats. Later, splurge on your favourites at the Showbag Pavilion. A Twilight ticket is five hours for fun.
BEST OF THE BUSH
Rural and regional students from across NSW will be cooking and serving treats at the Fashion and Lifestyle Pavilion and taking all proceeds back to their school for much-needed financial support. The Big Bush BBQ is a sausage sizzle with a purpose. Buy a snag and support the societies taking over the stand this year. When you buy an Ag Bag ($25), all proceeds go to rural and regional community projects.
SENIORS’ DAY
Offers one full day of value and entertainment on April 7. Bring the grandkids and share with them everything you love about the Show. Seniors ride free with a paying child on selected rides in the Kids’ Carnival and Coca-Cola Carnival. Valid with presentation of the NSW Seniors Card.
PETS APLENTY
Crowd favourites such as the ADVANCE Sydney Royal Dog and Cat Shows, rats and mice, reptile and guinea pigs are back for more furry and slimy fun. Best in Show Dog, 3.30pm, April 11. Catch the K9 Ninja Challenge with farmer Dave at the Pet Pavilion.
EXHIBITOR COMPETITIONS
The Show prides itself on the range and quality of rural competitions and competitors. The Great Backyard Pumpkin Challenge and Livestock and District Exhibits Competitions should not be missed.
ARTS & CRAFTS
Whether they’re wearable or just beautiful to look at, you’ll be amazed by the talent and skills that go into making the works of art on display in this Pavilion. For the first time, check out Australian rural themed cake decorating, folk art and displays of Australian natural fibres.
HOST A BBQ
Fire up the BBQ in an exclusive area beside GIANTS Stadium. You’ll have uninterrupted views of all the action, plus an Esky full of sausages, steaks, salads, beer and wine. Available from 5pm-9pm; $500 for a group of 10.
COVID SAFETY INFO
COVID-safe restrictions are in place with online bookings required via Ticketmaster.
The 12-day event can host up to 60,000 visitors daily following NSW Health’s approval of the Show’s COVID Safe Plan.
The Show’s general manager Murray Wilton said organisers had invested significantly in infrastructure, equipment and systems to help protect the health and safety of patrons, exhibitors, staff and competitors.
A custom-built people counting system will be used to monitor venue capacity, and real-time data on the Show’s app and website will let showgoers see how busy areas in the grounds are.
COVID Safety Marshals and 182 cleaning staff and hygiene staff will be working daily at the show and pavilions will have updated layouts to increase aisle ways, with additional handwashing and sanitiser stations and audio messages to encourage showgoers to use them.
“It’s fantastic to have the Show back in 2021 and is a testament to the hard work of the Royal Agricultural Society for their COVID-safe planning and preparation, and the support of the NSW community in managing the pandemic to allow this important, much-loved event to proceed this year,” NSW tourism minister Stuart Ayres said.
“I encourage everyone to book a ticket and plan their experience.”
