A man has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly assaulting his partner and setting fire to the room she was in at a home in Maningrida.

The 35-year-old allegedly attacked his partner before she fled into another room within the residence where he set fire to the bedroom door.

A nearby resident came to her aid and extinguished the fire before the man fled the scene.

He was then arrested within the community by local police and detectives from the Domestic and Family Violence Unit a short time after they arrived.

The man was charged with recklessly endangering life, choking and strangulation in a domestic relationship, aggravated assault, possessing less than a trafficable quantity of a schedule two drug, contravening a domestic violence order and arson.

The woman was conveyed to the local clinic for smoke inhalation and injuries to her head and body when police arrived.

The man was remanded to appear in the Darwin Local Court on Friday.

In another unrelated incident, a group of youths have been arrested and charged after allegedly unlawfully entering a Smith Street business and stealing cash earlier this week.

The three boys, aged between 12 and 14, were all charged with aggravated burglary, serious breach of bail and property offences.

The group allegedly entered the licensed business at 9.15pm on Tuesday before fleeing to a service station nearby where they confronted the operator.

NT Police arrived at the service station but the youths had already fled the scene by the time they arrived.

Strike Force Trident detectives immediately identified the alleged offenders, arresting two of the youths on Wednesday morning and the final youth on Thursday.

They will appear in court at a later date.

Woman in hospital after broken glass attack in Coconut Grove

A woman who was allegedly assaulted using broken glass in Coconut Grove is in hospital while police work to find her alleged attackers.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Tanya Woodcock said police were alerted to the incident shortly after midnight Tuesday.

Sergeant Woodcock said Territory Protective Services security staff found the woman at a block of units after she was allegedly cut and “punched and kicked”.

She said St John NT took the woman to hospital in a stable condition with “superficial wounds”.

Sergeant Woodcock said the incident had “indications” of domestic violence but police “have not got a formal complaint from the victim yet”.

She said police were searching for a man and woman in relation to the incident.

“We have not made arrests yet and there’s no reason to believe that the suspects in this will be assaulting or a danger to anyone else,” Sergeant Woodcock said.

Sergeant Woodcock said police also attended an attempted robbery in a Darwin City service station earlier in the night.

She said three men demanded cash from the sales attendant who refused and pushed a duress alarm.

“Security and police arrived shortly after and the three offenders fled empty-handed,” Sergeant Woodcock.

“We have no arrests yet but we certainly have some good lines of inquiry.

“We will be investigating that further today.”
