A woman is in a critical condition and another has been charged following an alleged domestic violence knife attack in Katherine.

A woman is in a critical condition after she was allegedly attacked during a domestic violence incident in Katherine.

An NT Police spokesman said the 31-year-old woman received cuts to her upper body during the alleged attack in Cossack about 6.10pm on Friday.

He said she was transferred from Katherine District Hospital to Royal Darwin Hospital for emergency surgery.

The spokesman on Monday morning said the woman was still in hospital.

He said a 27-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and charged with unlawfully causing serious harm. She was expected to appear in Katherine Local Court.

Women left with ‘serious injuries’ after two alleged knife attacks

Two women have been admitted to hospital with serious knife wounds after separate assaults in Darwin and Katherine on Friday night.

Northern Territory Police were called to a disturbance at the corner of Daly St and McMinn St in Darwin City about 10pm.

“We attended there and have located a female suffering pretty significant injuries to her back and her arm,” Northern Watch Commander David Allan said.

Officers provided first aid to the 30-year-old before she was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment for suspected knife wounds.

A 32-year-old man is in custody over the alleged assault.

In a separate incident, a 31-year-old woman was taken to Katherine District Hospital after a knife attack at the town’s Low Level Nature Reserve.

At about 6.20pm police responded to a disturbance and found the woman “also suffering significant injuries to her back”.

“Of the two, she (the 31-year-old) received the more serious injuries from what I can gather,” Sergeant Allan said.

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested in relation to the alleged Katherine assault.

Investigations are ongoing.
