THE eldest son of acclaimed rocker and author Nick Cave is behind bars, accused of a series of violent attacks on his girlfriend.

Jethro Lazenby has faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court charged with kicking, punching and threatening to murder her.

MAJOR CASH INJECTION FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND RESEARCH

Mr Lazenby, 26, who used his famous dad’s surname during a global modelling career, had a long history of drug abuse and had fallen on hard times, the court heard.

A bail hearing was told that on March 20 at a Carlton address, Mr Lazenby and the alleged victim had a heated argument over money and their relationship.

Mr Lazenby tried to apologise and kiss the victim but she pushed him away, the court heard. He then allegedly retaliated by punching her in the cheek with his fist.

After leaving to buy cigarettes, Mr Lazenby returned and an argument broke out over the whereabouts of his phone. He allegedly kicked her and threw her on to a couch.

A police statement before the court claims Mr Lazenby held the victim down, twisted her arm behind her back and screamed, “I’m going to murder you”, three times.

The court heard police had been to the address three hours earlier on the same day after the pair had an argument over drugs.

Police opposed bail on the grounds Mr Lazenby had shown a complete disregard for previous court orders, including breaching conditions nine times and returning to allegedly assault his girlfriend straight after being released from custody.

Mr Lazenby faces five charges including making a threat to kill, recklessly causing injury and unlawful assault. His lawyer Matthew White told the court his client denied all the allegations.

Magistrate Peter Reardon refused bail, saying Mr Lazenby had shown little regard for court orders in the past. The case returns to court on Wednesday.

Mr Lazenby was born in 1991 to Melbourne model Beau Lazenby, in a relationship with Cave at the time.

Ten days later another son, Luke, was born in Brazil to Cave’s other girlfriend, stylist Viviane Carneiro.

Jethro Lazenby was raised in Melbourne and, while he knew who his father was, he did not meet Cave until he was about seven years old.

He grew up to become a model. He made his catwalk debut at the Melbourne Fashion Festival in 2006, and was embraced by fashion’s fast set in London. He hung out with the “rockocracy” — the adult offspring of such stars as The Rolling Stones, Roxy Music legend Bryan Ferry and British rocker Paul Weller.

His edgy appeal won him a place on international catwalks for the likes of Balenciaga, Versace, Costume National and Paul Smith.

Nick Cave has fathered four sons, including twins Arthur and Earl with fashion designer Susie Bick.

Tragically, 15-year-old Arthur fell to his death from a cliff in Brighton, England, in 2015 after taking LSD.

Cave has lived in that south coast city for years. Born in Warracknabeal, he was a figurehead in Melbourne's late 1970s punk scene with the Boys Next Door, later The Birthday Party. He has led Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds for 34 years to global acclaim, and is the author of novels, screenplays, and TV and film scores.
