All quiet on the Westin front: No sign of $200m project restarting

THE site of the proposed Westin Hotel Waterfront resort has been reopened to the public with the project giving its biggest indication yet it won’t ever be fulfilled.

While the back side of Anchorage court, from Jervois Rd to the Darwin Port Cruise ship terminal is yet to open, a large portion of land is no longer fenced off to the public, making for a lush, green, common space.

Landbridge has said it would not continue with its Waterfront hotel if construction was not resumed by the end of June, 2021.

But the reopening of the site to the public indicates they may be closer to a final decision, with the Government also shifting their focus to a number of other projects including a 38-storey luxury hotel in Darwin CBD, expected to cost between $100 million and $140 million.
