Iku Yakitori and Whisky Bar starts new set menu experience with a twist

A BURLEIGH restaurant is calling on Gold Coast foodies to help curate their new, exclusive Japanese menu.

Iku Yakitori and Whisky Bar is celebrating Queensland produce with a new set-menu experience, but owner and chef Mitch Chesterton wants customer feedback.

Mr Chesterton said the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to transform his business model, which now features a different Omakaze dinner menu each week and a menu development sessions.

“We were struggling but then decided to reinvent the wheel,” he said.

“In tough times, we need to support each other and I am excited to showcase fresh and local produce, support small suppliers and get locals excited about the Gold Coast restaurant scene,” he said.

Before the $70 five-course menu is released each week, Gold Coasters are invited to join an exclusive menu development night on Tuesdays to taste test dishes.

The dining experience, for 25 patrons only, is a discounted rate of $50 but “honest feedback” is required.

Iku, formerly owned by Mitch and Nerissa McCluskey, was purchased by Mr Chesterton 10 months ago.

Dishes like, bichotan smoked kingfish and sous vide duck breast with celeriac and miso will feature on the menu this week.

If that isn’t your cup of green tea, the whisky bar is open for their yakitori, charcoaled meats, and bar snacks too.
