THE GOLD Coast food truck industry was on the brink of collapse due to events struck out by the pandemic but a suburban revival has kicked in.

COVID-19 has decimated the event industry and food trucks, like Izabella Knapp’s family business Greek Recipe which has been struggling to find a new audience beyond festival gigs.

Thanks to their meat supplier Gold Coast Meat Brokers offering up its carpark area, the Greek food haven has been cooking lamb souvlakis in the Nerang spot.

“We usually sell hundreds of goods at Drop Fest, Sirromet concerts, school gigs and Christmas concerts but everything has been cancelled,” Isabella’s mum and Greek Recipe owner Tanya Knapp said.

“It has been heartbreaking but Gold Coast Meat Brokers came to the rescue. The word is getting out and we’re doing well.”

Similarly, K & D Gourmet owners Katerin Castro and Daniel Machado are flipping pizzas from their food truck in Palm Meadows Drive, Carrara and saving upwards of $600 on Coast event site fees.

Barraca Portuguese food truck owner Christian Vaughan, who can be found at Bundall, Chevron Island and Southport spots, said he hoped the “burb food truck phenomenon” continues post COVID-19.
