UPDATE: WALKING into Charmaine Battiss’ bakery is like warm hug and it is no surprise Gold Coasters travel near and far to try her goods.

The Mill Bakery, a friendly community hub in Paradise Point, delivers sweets with a smile and has been voted the Best of the Gold Coast for 2020.

The public gave hundreds of reviews on Facebook and Bulletin subscribers chose The Mill Bakery as the winner from 10 finalists.

Ms Battiss, who purchased and renovated the tired bakery 18 months ago, said claiming first place was a testament to her dedicated staff and incredible customers.

“During COVID-19 we’ve done really well but it’s still been really hard,” the owner said.

“We are still standing thanks to Paradise Point residents shopping locally and we are so appreciative.”

The bakery is famous for their gluten free and dairy free chunky steak pies, vegan pies, sourdough, sausage rolls, carrot cake and vanilla slice.

Customer Bobby Monika Prinsloo said: “It’s the best, has a huge variety, everything is tasty and the best coffee as well. Everything in the shop is great, including the friendly staff.”

The Mill Bakery beat strong competition from Foster’s Bakery in Nobbys Beach, who came in a close second.

The family bakery, which prides itself on a “simple and no fuss” menu, has been operating since 1982.

Owner Stuart Foster, who was three year -old when the store first opened, said he was ecstatic his bakery was “nominated alongside incredible and unique Gold Coast venues”.

Other top bakeries included 5B2F Bakehouse in Chirn Park, My French Pastries in Robina and Bam Bam Bakehouse in Mermaid Beach.

A variety of freshly baked breads, rolls, pies, a range of sweet pastries and cakes.

Sandwich bar and Merlo Coffee available.

2. FOSTER’S BAKERY

Family owned bakery operating since 1982.

Trading hours: 6am to 3pm – Monday to Saturday.

Popular bakery, dessert and coffee shop.

Pastry chef and owner Moonsun Yoo takes pride in his exquisite dessert menu, which changes every week.

Pastry chef and owner Antonio Marchesi more than 150 bakery goods each day.

5. BAM BAM BAKEHOUSE, MERMAID BEACH

Trading hours: 6.30am to 2pm.

Leafy bakery & cafe offering house-baked pastries & bread, plus eclectic breakfast & lunch fare.

You might be met with a packed house but don’t let it deter you from enjoying their famous plain croissants, twice baked almond croissants, cruffins, choux bombs, raspberry coconut vegan slice and mermaid lattes.

Their famous croissant meal — the Bam Bam Benny — is divine.
