FOUR towers can be built on the Broadwater site of one of the Gold Coast’s oldest aged care facilities, under a plan about to be approved by council.
The application by Tricare (Biggera Waters) Pty Ltd which has been supported by council officers was given the tick by councillors at a planning committee meeting prior to tomorrow’s full council.
The masterplan for a staged redevelopment of the site had 23 objections.
“The residential care facility on-site will continue to operate at full capacity, unaffected by the proposed Stage 1 as the development area-footprint is not currently used as part of the facility,” the report said.

Officers in their report said the development contemplated increases of up to 50 per cent in height. A proposed tower fronting Brighton Street would be 14 levels.
The average height for apartment towers in the surrounding area was about seven storeys but officers said the site covered 9921 sqm and offering three road frontages.
“The proposed tower form is taller than the existing buildings forms in the immediate vicinity being three to nine storeys however is in keeping with the taller, coastal high-rise developments to the north and south of Biggera Waters and Labrador,” the report said. “The towers are intended to have good separation distances ranging from 12m average.”
