UPDATE: A 24 hour fire ban has been declared for Darwin, Adelaide River and multiple rural areas

UPDATE: The Chief Fire Control Officer, Bushfires NT and the Director, NT Fire and Rescue Service have declared a 24 hour fire ban period for Thursday 27 August for the following areas:

Darwin and Adelaide River, Daly South, Gregory, Carpentaria and Arnhem West Fire Weather Forecast Areas and the Northern Fire Protection Zone and Katherine Fire Protection Zone.

No person shall light a fire or cause a fire to be lit in the open in the portion of the Northern Territory within the fire ban area.

This includes the Darwin, Adelaide River, Batchelor, Marrakai, Pine Creek and Katherine emergency response areas.

E ARLIER: Firefighters across the Northern Territory are monitoring a number of fires across the Top End on Wednesday after battling to contain blazes at Humpty Doo, Batchelor, Lake Bennett and Darwin River on Tuesday.

Severe Fire Danger warnings are in place for the Carpentaria, Gregory, Northern Fire Protection Area, Daly South and Katherine Fire Protection Areas.

NT Fire and Rescue Service Territory Duty Officer Luigi Cucchiaro said more crews had been deployed today to assist with fires.

“We’ve had to bring on extra crews two extra crews to monitor extra fires. We have one crew out at Gunn Point as well as volunteers and a couple of crews sitting out at Doxas Rd,” he said.

“We did go and inspect the fire at the back of Marlow’s Lagoon, that’s all safe. There’s no active fires at the moment, other than a few little flare ups.”

Bushfires NT Incident controller Joshua Fischer said firefighters in the Bushfires NT Emergency Response Area.

“We’ve got crews still working on the previous fires form yesterday working to consolidate those controls lines, there’s still back burning at Lake Bennett and aircraft undertaking aerial survey at this time to assist,” he said.

A fire at Fowler Rd was naturally contained in the early hours of this morning while firefighters are also managing land in Darwin River.

“There was some early burn scars from planned back burning and previous fires which managed to hold the spread of the fire in the evening and that managed to stop further spread to the west and north west,” Mr Fischer said.

“We downgraded it to an advice message this morning.

“At Letchford Rd and Mead Rd we’ve got crews there continuing to black out and monitor for any reignitions.”
