Mystery surrounds Ashlee Brown’s killing after husband failed to call for help despite 100 injuries

SHE was tied-up, stabbed and lay in agony for days in the bathroom with more than 100 injuries. Her husband never called for help. Who is to blame for Ashlee’s death?

A HUSBAND who denies killing his wife claims he found her covered in blood, badly beaten and tied-up in their garage, but didn’t call for help because she begged him not to.

Instead Mohamed Naddaf, 37, insists he lovingly cared for 25-year-old Ashlee Brown in the couple’s bathroom for up to five days until she finally died from her injuries.

Naddaf told police he camped in the bathroom with a TV and heater, fed his wife water through a syringe and tended to more than 100 injuries.

MAN CHARGED WITH KILLING HIS WIFE

WOMEN AND CHILD MURDERS SKYROCKET

Ms Brown suffered blunt and sharp force injuries to her head, torso, buttocks, arms and legs, was stabbed in the thighs and had bruising and cuts on her head and breast.

Naddaf claims he was sleeping when she was beaten and was shocked to find her gagged and tied-up in the couple’s blood-splattered garage when he woke.

He dragged her inside and didn’t call 000 until days later when paramedics found Ms Brown “obviously dead” with Naddaf trying to resuscitate her.

Naddaf told police: “I honestly didn’t think she was going to die”.

Clumps of hair, packing-tape wrapper and lengths of cord matching the couple’s clothesline cord were later found in their bin.

Ashlee Brown’s killer remains a mystery.
Ashlee Brown’s killer remains a mystery.

Prosecutors today urged Supreme Court judge John Champion not to accept the story. But they were unable to offer an alternative.

Naddaf was originally charged with killing his wife but struck a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to a single count of manslaughter by criminal negligence instead.

The charge is based solely on the fact he didn’t seek medical assistance for Ms Brown and does not allege he was violent toward her in anyway.

He faces a maximum of 20 years imprisonment.

Naddaf maintains he didn’t harm her and prosecutors won’t try to prove that he did.

It means the identity of Ashelee’s killer remains a mystery.

“What occurred in the car and prior to when Mr Naddaf says that he found Ms Brown nobody knows,” defence counsel David Cronin said.

Judge Champion said Naddaf had failed in his duty of care to his wife.

The court heard Naddaf was a long-time drug user, who had used marijuana, heroin and ice, and had a significant criminal history.

But references tendered on his behalf recalled him as a loving, caring and generous family man.

“If one listens to the 000 call it’s apparent you can hear grief and sadness in the voice of Naddaf,” his lawyer said.

Naddaf will undergo further psychological assessments before the case returns to court.
