THE mother of the accused CBD rampage driver has apologised to the families involved and says she is ashamed to be his mum.

THE mother of the accused Bourke St Mall killer Dimitrious Gargasoulas says she is ashamed.

As Emily Gargasoulas grapples with her grief, she is also focused on her other son, Angelo, who was allegedly stabbed by his brother.

Mates have revealed how Angelo had a tumultuous relationship with Mr Gargasoulas. Speaking through tears, Ms Gargasoulas said she was struggling to comprehend the carnage her son is alleged to have caused.

“He’s hurt a lot of people and broken up a lot of families ” she said.

“I’m ashamed of him and ashamed to be his mum. I’m so sorry to the families he’s hurt.

“When I found out about what he did ... I felt sick ... so sick in my stomach.”

Ms Gargasoulas said she realised it was her son accused of being behind the wheel once she saw the news — it was her former partner’s car, which Mr Gargasoulas had allegedly stolen only days earlier.

She said Angelo was her “baby” and he now had to fight for his life because of his brother’s alleged actions.

Friends have revealed failed attempts to get Mr Gargasoulas help for drug and mental health issues — and how those who advocated for intervention were shunned. But it was on Friday when violence allegedly peaked at a new level.

At their Raleigh St home in Windsor, Angelo was stabbed, including to his face. Brother Dimitrious is the key suspect in the clash that woke neighbours about 2am.

Speaking to the Sunday Herald Sun, Angelo’s best friend, Giuseppe Greco, said he was helpless to save his mate.

Mr Gargasoulas is accused of continually tormenting his brother.

But there was a soft spot Angelo had for Dimitrious, hoping that one day he would get help.

The pair had even moved together into a CBD apartment on Flinders St — not far from where Mr Gargasoulas’s alleged mayhem would begin on Friday.

The brothers’ parents broke up when they were quite young — and Mr Greco believes that had a deep impact on them.

A scan on the family’s Facebook pages reveals smiling faces, mouth pouts and a normal life.

But Mr Gargasoulas’s Facebook page was more chilling.

Just six days before the mall chaos, he allegedly wrote: “I’LL TAKE YOU ALL OUT JUST ME YOU NEED A ARMY TO TAKE ME AND SO FAR YOU HAVE PRESENTED HALF A ARMY.”

THE hostage from the violent CBD massacre recalled the moment the accused driver said he planned to “drive into the city (and) kill everyone”.

Akiir Muo, the girlfriend of Dimitrious “Jimmy” Gargasoulas, told how he demanded she go with him or he would kill her, his mum and himself.

“I was staying at his mum’s apartment and he woke me up really early on Friday morning,” the 25-year-old said.

“He wasn’t himself … he kept saying, ‘I can’t let you out of my sight, if you don’t come with me I’m going to kill you’.”

Ms Muo then allegedly became a hostage and Mr Gargasoulas took her on a wild four-hour chase from 7am.

“He was driving really erratically ... he kept saying it was the end of the world and how he planned to run over people in the city because the police were following us,” she claimed.

“I was so frightened. I kept saying, ‘It doesn’t have to be like this, just pull over and co-operate with police’.”

The Sunday Herald Sun understands Mr Gargasoulas drove down Chapel and Dorcas streets in South Melbourne, and took Ms Muo to an abandoned house.

“As soon as he realised there was more police following us, he just went crazy ... he kept saying he was God and he was going to kill lots of people,” she said.

“We eventually ended up on the Bolte Bridge and I kept demanding he let me out.

“He leant across me, opened my door and pushed me out on to the road.

“I was so scared, it was awful.”

Once she was free, Ms Muo was interviewed by police for more than 10 hours.

“When I found out he actually killed people I just went into shock. I started crying and thought, ‘Jimmy, what have you done?’,” she said.
